CHEST 2024 brings cutting-edge science, education to historic city of Boston

Boston may be among the oldest cities in the United States, but it’s a fresh venue for the CHEST Annual Meeting 2024.

CHEST 2024, October 6 to 9, will bring the annual meeting’s cutting-edge clinical education in pulmonology, critical care, and sleep medicine to Boston for the first time since 1989. The meeting upholds CHEST’s standard of excellence by building a program filled with key experts in the topics currently affecting patient care, including artificial intelligence in health care and medical education, the health impact of climate change, and the vaping epidemic.

Those experts help set the CHEST Annual Meeting apart, said CHEST President, Jack D. Buckley, MD, MPH, FCCP.

“CHEST is a place where you can get absolutely top-notch experts in the field delivering content and materials in a variety of learning formats, including lectures, interactive sessions, case-based scenarios, simulation, and more,” Dr. Buckley said. “There is going to be a format that suits every individual need.”

Another hallmark of the annual meeting is the wide variety of topics and learning opportunities that provide something for everyone in chest medicine. This year will be no exception, with education covering the gamut from airways disorders and chest infections to lung cancer, critical care, and more.

“We’re proud of our simulation team and its ability to deliver really excellent hands-on training in the skills and procedures that are so important to our fields,” Dr. Buckley said. “CHEST remains the only professional medical association with an accredited simulation center, and we’re taking it on the road to Boston.”

Attending the CHEST Annual Meeting in person also provides unmatched opportunities for networking and collaboration.

For Gabriel T. Bosslet, MD, FCCP, Chair of the CHEST 2024 Scientific Program Committee, there are countless reasons people should come to CHEST, especially in Boston, which he considers one of his favorite cities. But it all comes down to being together.

“To me, CHEST is people,” Dr. Bosslet said. “To me, regardless of where we have the meeting, CHEST is getting together in person with folks who coalesce around doing similar work. And getting to see those people and interact with them and share best practices is one of the academic highlights of my year, every year.”

Dr. Bosslet is particularly looking forward to the CHEST After Hours storytelling event, now in its third year. This year’s event promises to be extra special, as CHEST is partnering with The Nocturnists Satellites, an initiative by award-winning medical storytelling program The Nocturnists that supports clinicians in producing live storytelling events in their local communities.

A new feature at CHEST 2024 will be live podcast recordings throughout the meeting. And Dr. Bosslet, a runner, is excited that CHEST is holding a 5K event in Boston. (Stay tuned: Registration for the 5K will open later this summer.)

“Boston is home of the Boston Marathon, and I really wanted to have an early morning run for attendees at the meeting,” he said. “I can’t promise I’ll be that fast, but I’ll be out there running for sure.”
