CHEST 2021 brings immersive, interactive learning experience to a global audience

From the latest basic and clinical research findings to the most recent developments in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the CHEST 2021 program will explore the most relevant, popular, and sometimes obscure, topics in chest medicine.

CHEST 2021 Program Co-Chairs Christopher Carroll, MD, FCCP, and David Zielinski, MD, FCCP, said lessons learned from the success of last year’s online meeting allowed the Scientific Program Committee to assemble an even more comprehensive, immersive, and interactive program for CHEST 2021.

“Building on what we learned last year, we’re very excited about the program we’ve put together for this year covering the latest in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine for clinicians at all levels,” Dr. Carroll said. “Whether you’re a trainee or an experienced clinician, the CHEST 2021 program has you covered—from live simulation to high-quality education sessions and smaller problem-based learning classes.”

Registration includes access to hundreds of live and on-demand sessions presented by top faculty and featured speakers. In addition, registration includes extended access to everything—including post-meeting bonus content—until October 2022.

Among the many hot topic areas reflected in this year’s program, Dr. Carroll said CHEST 2021 attendees can look forward to hearing about the latest clinical trial results, emerging advances in device technology, and newest recommendations from evidence-based guidelines over the last year.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, with increased surges and new variants of the virus emerging around the world, Dr. Carroll said this year’s program will once again include critically relevant sessions covering COVID-19 care and the ongoing impact of the pandemic, both in the U.S. and worldwide.

“Over the course of the meeting, you’ll find numerous sessions and other opportunities to learn and discuss the latest science, what we know about where COVID is now and where it’s going, what we expect to happen in the next year, how best to support our patients during these difficult times, and how to support each other as well,” Dr. Carroll said.

Recognizing the demanding and challenging role of chest physicians and the entire critical care team on the front lines of the pandemic, Dr. Zielinski said there will also be several sessions addressing mental health awareness, recognizing and avoiding burnout, and the importance of self-care.

“The impact of the pandemic has also provided a stark reminder of the racial and socioeconomic disparities and inequities in health care that challenge so many of our patients,” Dr. Zielinski said. “The impact of these disparities and what CHEST is doing, and things we can all do, to address and correct them will be the focus of several important sessions.”

In addition to hearing from some of the top experts in their fields from around the world about the latest advances, discoveries, and issues impacting patient care, Dr. Zielinski said CHEST 2021 attendees will have more opportunities than ever to connect with colleagues, interact with faculty during live Q&As, play online CHEST Games, and participate in virtual simulations.

“One of the many things that sets apart CHEST 2021 from other conferences is the simulation sessions being offered virtually. These sessions are an opportunity to practice your skills and techniques with some of the best educators anywhere in the world,” Dr. Zielinski said. “From start to finish, CHEST 2021 promises to be an engaging and immersive experience—we look forward to seeing you there.”
